Team name
The Mumbai Indians (commonly abbreviated to MI) are one of the original founder members of the IPL,, and are the most successful in its history, having won it five times They are the reigning champions.. They are owned by a subsidiary of Reliance Industries, one oi the biggest conglomerates in India.
The value of the franchise is the highest in the IPL and is estimated to be worth in excess of US $116 million.
The logo
Their logo consists of a spinning disk, associated with the Hindu god Vishnu. Their primary colour is blue with gold stripes on either side of the jersey. The motto of the team is “We Will Rock the World” (“Duniya Hila Denge Hum”).
Home ground
The MI home ground is the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, which has a current capacity of 45,000. Every boundary hit or wicket taken by the home team prompts the stadium disc jockey to play the fan-made song “Akkha Mumbai Khalaga”.

History
Although they struggled in their initial two seasons in the league, MI have enjoyed unparalleled success since. In 2011 they finished runners-up and then won it for the first time in 2011. Two years later they did it again, and made it three titles in 2017.
In 2019 they achieved a fourth success and then defended their title in the UAE in 2020, beating the Delhi Capitals in the final.
In addition, they qualified for the now defunct Champions League T20 and won it twice, in 2011 and 2013.
Sachin Tendulkar
Widely regarded as one of the best batsmen of all time, no player has scored more runs in international cricket than Tendulkar.
He was MI’s icon player and captain for the inaugural IPL season, and in 2010 was declared player of the tournament having scored 818 runs in 14 matches. He was also named Best batsmen and Best Captain at the end of season awards.
He scored his first Twenty20 century against Tuskers Kerala in 2011, and, when he hung up his spikes in 2013, MI retired his number 10 jersey as a tribute.
He is still involved with the franchise as a batting mentor.
Ricky Ponting
Ponting was a powerful right-handed batsmen and excellent slip fielder who captained Australia during one of their most successful eras in their history between 2002 and 2011. He joined MI In 2013 and was their skipper that season. He was inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame in 2013.
Shaun Pollock
Part of a South African cricketing dynasty, Pollock was named as Wisden Cricketer of the Year in 2003, and, although primarily known as a bowler, was a genuine all-rounder. He played for MI in their inaugural season.
Rohit Sharma
Rohit Sharma assumed the captaincy of MI and has led them to all five titles, including 2020, despite battling with a hamstring injury during the play-off stages. He is the third highest run scorer in the history of the competition after Virat Kohli and Suresh Raina.
Jasprit Bumrah
One of the best bowlers in the world across all formats of the game, he became only the second bowler ever to take three wickets on his IPL debut for MI. His performance in the 2019 final earned him the Man of the Match award and he repeated the feat in the 2010 qualifier against the Delhi Capitals, taking 4/14.
Quinton de Kock
The current captain of the South African national team, he is regarded as one of the best wicket-keeper batsmen in world cricket. He was the highest run scorer for MI in their successful 2019 season.
